THE SINNER’S PRAYER
The Bible says we must believe on Jesus Christ and confess His death and resurrection in order to be saved. Have you decided to take that step? Most people say a prayer to make it official; it’s called The Sinner’s Prayer.
Maybe you’ve read some of our Gospel presentations (view the list here). Maybe you heard the Gospel somewhere else. The Sinner’s Prayer is just a prayer that expresses, and confesses, a sinner’s embrace of the Gospel.
It’s not a formula; it’s a personal prayer. Likewise, The Sinner’s Prayer is not magic words, and it has no power to save. So you can pray with many or few words, and phrase your prayer myriad different ways. The essential part is your sincere trust in the Gospel of eternal salvation through Jesus Christ alone.
We want to make sure that every person who believes is actually believing the right Gospel. So, I think it’s advisable to include certain key points of the Gospel in your prayer. With that in mind, we have provided three variations of The Sinner’s Prayer below.
Remember, you don’t really need to say these particular prayers. And can always just look at these and form your own prayer to God. It doesn’t have to be a drawn-out process. As long as you’re truly believing the right Gospel, He’ll accept it.
SINNER’S PRAYER #1
You are Lord of all, and I have sinned against You. You have offered me life, but I rejected You until now. I believe that Your Son, Jesus Christ, died on the cross to take my punishment, and that He rose again. Thank You Jesus.
Please forgive me and save me. Please teach me Your word and show me Your will. Help me to live a new life for You, everyday, from now on.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
SINNER’S PRAYER #2
You created everything and rule the universe. I’ve rebelled against You, and I’m sorry. You sent Jesus Christ to die in my place, and I believe He lives. I humbly call on Him as my Lord and Savior.
Though I’m undeserving, I want Your free gift of salvation and eternal life. Please forgive me through His sacrifice, and use my life for Your Glory. Give me your Holy Spirit to help me see things how You see them and love what You love. Help me to follow You.
I pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
SINNER’S PRAYER #3
You are the only true God. You are holy, and powerful, and gracious. I now realize that Jesus Christ is Lord and that He suffered and died for me and rose again. He did this so that I can come to You. So that’s what I’m doing.
Thank You for loving me–a sinner. Please forgive me now and grant me new life and eternal life. Be my God and accept me as one of Your people–to love You and live for Your glory
I ask it in Jesus’ name, Amen.
YOUR WORDS FROM YOUR HEART
You can use your own words to pray or repeat any of The Sinner’s Prayers above. One way isn’t necessarily better than another way, as long as the words are biblical. God weighs the heart. The important part is that you come to the one true God, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and ask for this free gift of salvation.
