THE ROMANS ROAD TO SALVATION
Let’s take a walk down the Romans Road…
Where are you headed? This is a simple question. Yet you could answer it so many different ways. You’re headed somewhere right now, somewhere over time, and a final somewhere too.
Most people think a lot about here and now. Far fewer people look ahead and focus on their final destination, at the end of the road. But all of us reach the end sooner or later. Then, it’s too late to change anything.
You have a choice in this moment, though. There are two destinations. One is terrible; one is wonderful. Both are eternal. You will end up in one place or the other.
How can you reach the wonderful place? You need to get on the right path as soon as possible. Doing so would change the course of the rest of your life… for the better. So please take a minute to follow the Romans Road to salvation–what the Bible says about God, you, and eternity in the Book of Romans.
*This Gospel presentation is a revised and expanded version of the typical version of The Romans Road.
GOD IS REAL AND SUPREME
“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.” (Romans 1:20-21)
God is real, and supreme over all things. He created the universe. He created the world. He created mankind. And all of creation clearly displays His authorship and character.
God alone is worthy of worship. Yet people do not worship Him. Instead, the world ignores Him, rejects His authority, and denies His existence altogether.
GOD IS HOLY. YOU ARE GUILTY.
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” (Romans 3:23)
Not only is God great, but He’s good too. That means holy–morally perfect. On the other hand, all people are characterized by sin, which is basically rebellion against God.
We lie. We steal. We lust, hate, envy, gossip, and injure. We blaspheme the Lord’s holy name by using it as a curse word or a common word. We commit idolatry by worshiping anything or anyone besides the one true God, or by placing other things or people above God in our lives.
GOD STILL LOVES YOU, IMMEASURABLY
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
It would be fair for God to turn His back on us. After all, we have despised Him. He loves us, though… immeasurably. In fact, He proved it.
God created us for a relationship with Him. So our rebellion grieves Him, like a hateful son would grieve a loving father. So He mercifully gave His best to make a way for us to Him.
OUR WAGES AND HIS GIFT TO US
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
You see, justice demands punishment for evil. Even a sinful human judge punishes offenders; a perfectly just God can by no means overlook evil. Sin brings death, so we all die. The remainder of our deserved punishment, the “wage” which we have earned for our rebellion, is eternal condemnation, separated from God, in a terrible place called Hell.
The Good News is that Jesus Christ came to save us. The perfect Son of God voluntarily died on the cross in our place to satisfy God’s righteous requirement. Then God raised Him from the dead to show His victory over death for us. Through Christ’s substitutionary death and resurrection, we can be cleared of guilt and brought into a right relationship with God, forever.
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)
Jesus Christ offers total forgiveness and restoration. Through Him we can come to God and be accepted now. Because of Him we can enjoy a relationship with God in this life and spend eternity in His presence, in a wonderful place, afterward.
HOW TO RECEIVE THIS GIFT
“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
Salvation is a gift. Christ already paid the great cost for it. Trying to buy it or earn it, which is impossible, only denies this truth. Just hold out your hands and receive it.
Don’t complicate it. Only believe that Christ the Lord died for your sins and rose again. Then pray it; commit yourself to Him and ask for His forgiveness.
EVERYONE CAN BE SAVED
Everybody is eligible! We’re all sinners; and that’s why we need Christ. No sin can keep you from new life in Jesus Christ except the sin of unbelief. But if you believe and call of Him, He promises to save you.
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13)
